Abstract

The role of a female entrepreneur in Tecate, Baja California, as the leader of a food and beverage business requires a set of managerial skills, some of which are developed by overcoming challenges, some of which are linked to gender. To identify these challenges, a qualitative methodology was adopted through a cross-sectional case study. Interviews were conducted with the owners and executives of the restaurant. The analysis revealed a set of internal and external challenges, identifying that some external challenges were gender related, while internal challenges were primarily overcome through family upbringing and formal education. This context has led them to develop managerial skills such as adaptability and resilience, empathy, gender-equitable vision, effective communication and accountability.
